“7 Things you should consider when you pick a Chiropractor”

Pick a Chiropractic

There’s alot of things that you may “hear” about Chiropractic that is simply not true.  There are things you need to know when you pick a Chiropractor.  Let’s take a closer look at some of the rumors you may or may not have heard, and let’s put some of them to rest.  At the end of this blog you’ll be able to comment, please do so, I’d love to get your feedback.

#1, Once you start going to a Chiropractor, you have to go forever.

False- however, once you read the rest of this article, you may decide it’s a good idea to do so.

#2, Chiropractic can CURE things.

False- Chiropractic has nothing to do with curing anything.  Literally it has to do more with keeping the body working at peak performance.  Just like a car that gets tuned up regularly, gets normal oil changes, and keeps the engine working well, it has less of a chance of a breakdown.

The truth is, your body is the only one that can cure yourself.  As long as the channels are clear, your system was designed by our maker to heal itself.

The problem I have with Chiropractors is when they advertise that they can “cure” certain things.  On many of their ads they claim, “We can help you with”- headaches, backpain, neck pain, etc.

The thing is, the only thing we can do is remove the interference, where it exists in the nervous system, and once moving properly again, and the body is able to function properly, sometimes this stuff does go away.  Other times it does not.  The best chance of your body functioning highly though is when it has no interference.

Chiropractors call this interference “Vertebral Subluxation”.  Medical Doctors also use the word Subluxation but it has a different meaning all together.

#3: There are Differences in Chiropractors

It’s true, Chiropractors are divided into what we now call Principled Chiropractors and Therapeutic Chiropractors.

Principled Chiropractors practice within the Chiropractic Paradigm of all healing comes from within the body. They honor the Innate Intelligence of the body and Adjust Vertebral Subluxations with the purpose of allowing a better expression of the Innate processes of the body. Principled Chiropractors act in partnership with the body.

Pick a Chiropractor that is a Principled Chiropractor!

Therapeutic Chiropractors practice within the Medical Paradigm and believe healing comes from outside the body and can be forced upon the body. They don’t understand the role of Innate Intelligence, and believe they are a good “alternative” to medical treatments. Therapeutic Chiropractors try to force change of pathological processes in the body resulting in less symptoms.

Do NOT Pick a Chiropractor that has different principles than you!

#4: Chiropractic Neck Manipulations can cause Strokes

Yes, the neck is home to the vertebral arteries, which supply the head and brain with blood. These arteries are housed within the protective bone of the cervical spine, and are commonly referred to when arguing against the Chiropractic Adjustment.

The chances of you having a stroke during an adjustment is almost the same as getting struck by lightning twice in the same day.  Your more likely to get hurt when the hair dresser washes your hair than at a Chiropractic office.

First off, an Adjustment and a Manipulation are vastly different. Adjustments are specific and delivered by a Chiropractor educated in normal spine physiology and motion. Manipulations, on the other hand, are delivered by therapists who understand the value of Chiropractic, but do not have formal training and experience with the Chiropractic Adjustment.  DO NOT ALLOW JUST ANYONE TO ADJUST YOU.  I’ve heard of physical therapists and massage therapists “popping” someone’s neck, and I think it’s a terrible idea.  Just because I own a drill does not make me a dentist.

I’m not going to argue that nobody has ever suffered a stroke while on a Chiropractors table. Many variables play into having a stroke, such as lifestyle choices.  However, it’s highly doubtful any Chiropractor has been the sole cause of anyone ever having a stroke.

#5: Chiropractic Therapy is no more effective than Therapeutic Exercise, and is more Expensive and Risky

All Therapy, regardless of whether it’s Chiropractic, Exercise, or Medicine, is ineffective for creating long-term results. Again, Therapy aims to “cure” or “heal” a health problem from outside-in.

There’s no dispute exercise is of tremendous value both Therapeutically, and for Health. Motion is Life and exercise is a necessity to a Healthy Life.  I think exercise, healthy food choices, Yoga, Stretching, Vitamins, and other things people do to lead a healthy lifestyle is a great idea.  However, without a nervous system that is functioning properly, these other things have limitation.  Let’s say for instance you pull up to a gas station in your 15 year old car that you’ve never changed the oil in, and you’ve never changed the spark plugs but your putting in high octane.  How well do you think this car will function?  The same goes with your body.  It starts with proper spinal biomechanics.  If your body if free of interference your body can function like it was intended to.

If your primary reason for visiting a Chiropractor is to get rid of a “pain” your not alone.  A lot of people start out for such a purpose.  Unfortunately, sometimes a Therapeutic Chiropractor is chosen for this task, and after their attempt to chase your symptoms, and temporarly cover up your symptoms (similar to a medical doctor) your short term results won’t last.  The fact is a Principled Chiropractor will tell you the truth, that for Chiropractic to work well, you need to find a Chiropractor that will check your spine and adjust it on a regular basis so that your body can maintain itself.

#6: A Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) is not a Medical Doctor (MD)

ABSOLUTELY!!   It’s True, Chiropractors are not Medical Doctors.  Nor Do we want to be. 🙂

The “Health Care system” in this country is simply amazing.  We are the best country in the world, and yet we ranked 38th in the world.

Let me first say that I have the utmost respect for medical doctors, several of them are patients in my practice.  But think about it, the last time you were in the doctors office, Why were you there?  Was it because you were looking for ways to be “healthy”? or escape from a sickness?

See, the commercials on television portray happy families, and “health” when in-fact what they are really about is treating a symptom.  Usually the side effects at the end of the commercial are worse than the symptom itself!  But they’re hiding those terrible side effects of the “treatment” behind smiling children.

I believe that there are times when you should seek Medical Care.  If your having an emergency, such as breaking an arm, you should definitely seek a Medical Doctor for care.  Your typical doctor who is providing pain pills or allergy shots is not providing health care, but an outside in approach to health.

Think about this, if a high pollen count triggers allergies, why wouldn’t everyone get sick?  Some people’s immune system functions better and can handle things better than others.  By keeping your spine in proper bio mechanical motion, clear of subluxations, your immune system is kept stronger.

Chiropractic care works from an inside out approach.  Principled Chiropractors believe your body has everything it needs to function properly, as long as the channels are clear.

Some of them yes.  There are good and bad cops, fireman, judges, teachers, etc.  It happens in every profession.
